“John Sun” and the sin of claiming the right to life!

A divorced woman, it is not known how old she is. Maybe around forty-five. I say perhaps because of the difficulty in estimating the age of working-class, toiling women. They look worn out by the nature of the work they did at an early age and over the years. Because of the financial situation, therefore, the same care opportunities that are available to female employees are not available, and they have an office job with double the monthly income of female workers and more.

“Jeon Soon” is the title of the movie, which is also her name. An East Asian woman looks different on the screen, especially when she takes off her plastic headdress and white bra, which is the outfit worn by workers in a small factory with old mechanisms for packaging and packaging food manually. Far from this laboratory, Jeon Soon appears before us as a beautiful, full-bodied female, with jet-black hair and a kind, jovial face.

The film shows the extent of the foolishness of the young man, who is in charge of the packaging line in the factory, and the comedy of his attempts to impose his control over his workers. This is without anyone daring to object, lest he lose his job, especially the elderly, as young people quickly replace them as soon as they make a mistake.

A poor environment, and a group of workers and workers who are modest, with limited ambitions and dreams. However, most of them carry a mobile phone and are good at using it. Except for her, the tender-hearted “Jeon Soon”, perhaps by virtue of her advanced age as society suggests to her, or it is her ambition that stands for a simple, ordinary life, with a fixed income at the end of each month and a clean modest residence.

“Joon Soon” has a young, contemporary and practical daughter, who is regarding to get married. She plans her life, without wanting others to interfere in her life’s affairs, even if it is her mother. Independent, administratively responsible for a car repair shop, and has no spare time. It seems that the mother, Joon Soon, was unable to keep up with the requirements of the new society, so she entrusted her daughter with the task of managing her life as well in all its aspects. She takes her in her car early in the morning to the factory, and returns to take her home when their work is over.

A change occurs in the routine of Mother Jeon Soon’s life, when a poor, single, and tired man approaching her age is appointed to the same laboratory. The rapprochement between them occurs, and a secret intimate relationship develops, limited to Joon Soon’s visits to him secretly in his room, his place of residence.

This man accepts the bad treatment of his subordinates, and he reluctantly tolerates bullying by young workers because of the age difference between them and him, and because he also suffers from a defect in his knee that makes it very difficult for him to get a job. But the comments are repeated, until the bullying by them reaches the point of belittling his manhood, which makes him pass on to these men his moment of dementia, a video he had recorded for Joon Soon, in which she appears in her underwear while singing.

And when Joon Soon is the last one in the lab to know regarding the video that went viral on an app and becomes the source of laughter and derision of an old woman singing half-naked, she breaks down, over her devastating scandal. The spontaneous scene of Joon-soon’s joy and happiness, so innocent, devoid of prostitution, in which she sings on his bed in the height of her harmony, shakes her life.

Jeon Soon leaves the laboratory humiliated and heartbroken, defenseless in the face of an entire society. She deliberately covers her face and all the mirrors of the house because of her sense of shame, disgrace and humiliation.

The film shows, between seriousness and farce, the crushed class exercising its power over the weakest among them, just as power is exercised over it by the strongest, the richest, and those endowed with rights. The authority of the man over the woman, the contemporary authority of the youth, the (youth) who offers us his model in the policy of age discrimination regarding the right to work, and the human exercise of many of his rights, regardless of physical strength and beauty values.

The film focuses on this group, which has passed the age of youth (within the school discipline of age). The individual who is over forty appears trapped, especially the woman, as if it is the end of the desire for life in all its forms: job opportunities, love, sexual desire, and simply and generally joyful living.

Through the eyes of young director Jeon Ji-hye, and this is her second film, we move into the world of living on the margins. We face, with accurate detailed photography, a high artistic sense and a distinguished performance, the embarrassment of claiming the right to enjoy life. It is evident in hostile and misogynistic societies. The content of masculinity, which triumphs over empty and humiliating values, makes a man provoked and retaliated because of his virility, as a result of comments that shame him for his inability, and if he shirks his responsibility that stands behind the event. Criticism directed at distorted societies that humiliate and condemn women, while absolving men of their responsibility.

Although this working group lives on the margins of society, it also does not escape the influence of the digital space in both worlds, as the film raises the issue of digital violations globally, or digital crimes, and (Cyberbullying), as it is called, due to the ignorance of consumers from the “non-digital generation” of how to use the means Social networking and its dangers. When it is not possible to estimate the speed of its spread from one phone to millions of phones in record time.

Just as it is happening today, as reality conveys to us more abject and despicable images, and also because there are no controls in most countries to control this manipulation, which is used for the purpose of extortion as well, not just entertainment. Although the victims of modern technological tools and methods of social communication are from all groups in society, women in particular suffer a greater share of harm and harm, which in cases we read regarding led to suicide.
