John Barnes has issued a warning to Mohamed Salah regarding his legacy with Liverpool, as the former Reds player warned the Egyptian that he might make the mistake of Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres.
Salah is in great shape with Jurgen Klopp’s squad this season to cement his place as one of the most productive players.
The 29-year-old scored 27 goals in just 32 matches to keep Leferball In pursuit of the English Premier League title.
However, concerns remain regarding his long-term future, Salah has less than 18 months to go and his current contract with Liverpool expires, and talks regarding new terms appear to have stalled.
This situation has raised fears among the Reds fans that Salah may leave the club if the Liverpool administration fails to meet his demands.
And Barnes warned Salah that he might give up his legendary status at Anfield if he does not commit to his long-term future for the club – just like Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres.
Barnes told “BonusCodeBets”: “Salah is on the list of one of the best players who have ever played for Liverpool.”
He added: “But if not Mohamed Salah At the club next year because he’s gone, it’s very similar to Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez.”
And he continued: “You have to stay really in Liverpool for a long time to be considered a legend, of course he is one of the greats, but it is not important, what is important is what he does while he is there, at the end of his career we can look and say where is his position?”
Prior to Salah’s time at Liverpool, both Suarez and Torres had been well respected by Reds fans, and the powerful duo were on their way to legendary status at Anfield before both departed.
Luis Suarez was lured away from Anfield before he might achieve legendary status and move to Barcelona, Torres was lured to London by Chelsea in a £50m deal following scoring 81 goals in 142 games, while Suarez was kidnapped by Barca following He scored 82 goals in 133 matches.
Salah has already surpassed both of those numbers, but his financial demands make his long stay at the club a problem.
While Salah has reiterated his desire to stay, he is said to be demanding a staggering £400,000-a-week salary, which is proving to be a major sticking point in the negotiations.
