Johannes Strolz is the leader in the Olympia Slalom final

With sunshine and cold temperatures (-17.2°), the slalom, the last individual Olympic competition for men, is on the agenda for Wednesday. After the first round, the combined Olympic champion 2022, Johannes Strolz, took the lead in a time of 53.92 seconds. The Norwegians are lurking right behind the Austrian Henrik Kristoffersen (+ 0.02) and slalom world champion Sebastian Foss-Solevaag (+ 0.06) in second and third place. The official FIS start list for the men’s Olympic Slalom round (finals – start 6.45 a.m.) in Beijing (Yanqing) as well as the FIS live ticker can be found in our menu as soon as you arrive! Here you can also follow the current live ticker of the 1st round.

Johannes Strolz: “A couple of times it was pretty close. Right on the starting slope I lost the outside ski for a short time, then it got pretty tight in the vertical. Even after that I thought to myself a few times: Pull yourself together, otherwise it won’t work. But I noticed that I have sparkling feet. You don’t think much about mistakes like that, that’s intuition. I do everything as usual, I focus on my things.”

As the best Swiss lined up Loic Meillard (+ 0.30), before the German Linus Strasser (5. – + 0.33) and Clement Noel from France (6th – +0.38), behind the leading trio in fourth place.

You can also win an Olympic medal Michael Matt (+ 0.44) from Austria and the Italian Tommaso Sala (+ 0.45) from Italy, in seventh and eighth place, speculate.

Michael Matt: “I briefly lost the outer ski at the top and couldn’t quite keep up the pace on the flat. The rest was okay, a solid ride. The backlog is tight. In the 2nd run you have to do it better, then it will be fine.”

Within the top ten, Bulgaria’s Albert Popov (9th – +070) and Alexander Khoroshilov (+ 0.71) from Russia, the first slalom run.

The top 15 completed Ramon Zehnhäusern (11. – +0.80) from Switzerland, Giuliano Razzoli (12. – + 0.87) from Italy, the Confederate Daniel Yule (13. – + 1.14), as well as the Norwegian Atle Lie McGrath (14th – + 1.16) and the French overall World Cup winner Alexis Pinturault (15. – + 1.20).

The dream of an Olympic slalom medal is for Manuel Feller unfortunately already a dream after the first run. The Tyrolean retired as well as Kristoffer Jakobsen from Sweden, and the Norwegian Lucas Braathenout after a goal error.

Manuel Feller: “It was already relatively difficult to warm up. But it actually felt good during the run. I had some grip, but that wasn’t to blame for the retirement. A threader can always happen. We knew that this is not necessarily one of our favorite undergrounds. The conditions were constantly changing, you had to adjust the setup again and again. I can take relatively little with me. The days here, let alone the days in quarantine, took a lot out of my self-confidence. Now it’s time to get up and keep going. We’ve been down often enough.”

Unfortunately went with the Austrian Marco Schwarz the button in the Olympic slalom does not open. The Carinthian ranked 25th for the Olympic slalom final and can compete with a good starting number.

Mark Schwarz: “There is a giant world between me and the medals. 2.32 seconds is bad. I wasn’t expecting much and went into the race with ease. But I get a ‘horn’ again. It’s very bitter. I have to keep fighting, I can’t force anything anyway. I have to accept it and learn from it.”

Currently sitting in the lead is Johannes Strolz????????, only 0.02 seconds ahead of @H_Kristoffersen ????????and 0.06 seconds ahead of @SSolevaag ???????????? The 2nd run will definitely be a showdown not to miss! ????#fisalpine #beijing2022 #olympics pic.twitter.com/lJAc6Mqkij
