This is one of the major questions around the French team: the presence – or not – of Joel Embiid this summer with the Blues for the World Cup. During the press conference following the draw for the hens of the 2023 World Cup, Vincent Collet announced that the pivot of the Sixers would probably not be on the adventure in Indonesia.

Hard blow for the French team? Yes and no. The info fell a few minutes ago at a press conference: Joel Embiid, Sixers pivot and favorite for the title of NBA regular season MVP, will probably not be in the group of Blues who will play the Basketball World Cup in Southeast Asia. Vincent Collet cites two reasons for this. First, the player would still not have made his choice. Having acquired French but also American nationality, Embiid has not decided which nation he potentially wishes to represent. Secondly, the Philadelphia star is regarding to celebrate her wedding, a happy event that will take place… this summer, during the preparation of the selections for the competition.

“For now, Joel Embiid still hasn’t made a decision, but I think I can tell you despite everything that regardless of this decision, it will be difficult for him to be with us this summer, which does not call into question his potential presence next year […] He is going to get married this summer and it really falls in the wrong period since it will be during the preparation of all the teams. –Vincent Collet

Author of an exceptional season in the NBA, where he proposed 33.1 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists average, Joel Embiid would be an asset of great luxury for the Blues. If things have deteriorated considerably for this summer, the door is however not closed for the Olympic Games in Paris, where he might have the opportunity to evolve with France in a competition at home. A point that is probably not to be excluded in his reflection.
