CENTER Joel Embiid has signed a contract extension with NBA club Philadelphia 76ers.

The 30-year-old Cameroonian basketball player signed a new 3-year contract worth US$193 million.

The 2023 NBA MVP has been playing for the Sixers since being drafted in 2014.

After signing a new contract, Embiid emphasized his determination to help the Sixers win their first NBA title since 1983.

“I started my NBA career at the Sixers and I want to be here until the end of my career. I never thought when they chose a kid from Cameroon that I would be so lucky to be in Philadelphia,” said Embiid.

“Through all the ups and downs, this city and its fans have been everything to me and I am so grateful they have welcomed me with open arms.”

He had 34.7 points, 11 rebounds and 5.6 assists last season.

“Joel has established himself as one of the Sixers’ greatest players of all time and is on track to become the greatest player in the NBA,” said Sixers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey. (bbc/Z-1)
