Short track skater Sjinkie Knegt will also be working as a marathon skater next season. The 35-year-old short track skater from Bantega is joining Team A6.nl/KMC, he reports on the website of the skating association.

Henkjan Meijer, the founder of the company A6.nl, gave Knegt the idea. “The plan went a bit differently than the original, but at a certain point Henk had the thought: we have to get Sjinkie back on track,” Knegt told schaatsen.nl. “He needs a different kind of sparring partner, so that he can train with his ‘lazy ass’ again. Henkjan was very aware of that.”

“The fact that Sjinkie is now in our team has only one goal. That he can participate in the World Cup short track competitions again this winter,” says Meijer. “And when it is possible with his short track program, he will skate marathons in the A6 suit, without us expecting anything from him. He has been training in the same way for so long that he could use something different. Marathons also give him more content.”

Knegt did not play a major role in the Dutch short track selection last season. He did not qualify for the World Championships in Rotterdam.
