Lewis is charged with a ‘blatant’ insider trading scheme and he was released following paying a bail of 300 million dollars, but he had to surrender his passport and cannot leave the United States.

According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, Lewis -86 years old- He was due to appear on Tuesday, but the hearing was postponed until early next year.

Lewis’s situation is especially followed in Great Britain, since until last year he was the majority shareholder of the Premier League soccer club Tottenham Hotspur but he sold his shares to a trust bearing his own name.

The shares were transferred al “Lewis Family Discretionary Trust”of which Lewis is not a beneficiary, for which the English club affirmed that the legal problems that the businessman is going through in the United States do not affect them.

The trust is managed by Katie Louise Booth, a Briton living in the Bahamas, and Bryan Antoine Glinton, a lawyer who also lives on that island, on which Lewis has his permanent residence. According to the Daily Mail, both “are listed as persons of significant control at Spurs” since October 2022.

Lewis pleaded not guilty to 19 counts of insider trading and conspiracy between 2013 and 2021when Lewis was still a shareholder of the Spurs.

Together with the tycoon they appeared before a federal courthouse in Manhattan along with the pilots of his private plane and co-defendants: Patrick O’Connor y Bryan Waughwho also pleaded not guilty.

The expected sentence for all the defendants ranges from five to 25 years in prison, In addition to multi-million dollar fines.
