President Joe Biden will announce US support next week for the African Union (AU) to join the G20, the group of the world’s largest economies, The Washington Post reported on Friday.

Joe Biden will make the announcement during the summit of American and African leaders in Washington, White House adviser Judd Devermont told the newspaper.
“We need more African voices in international conversations regarding the global economy, democracy and governance, climate change, health and security,” said Judd Devermont.

AU and Senegal President Macky Sall and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa have urged Joe Biden to increase their representation at the G20, he added. Among African countries, South Africa is the only member of the G20.
