Joe Biden Pardons Son Hunter in Controversial Move

President Biden Pardons Son Hunter in Contentious Case

President Joe Biden announced he signed a pardon for his son Hunter, effectively overturning his recent conviction on charges related to illegal firearm possession.

In a statement released by the White House, the president expressed deep conviction that his son was unfairly targeted.

“Today I signed my son Hunter’s pardon. From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere in the decision-making of the Department of Justice, and I kept my word even as I watched my son be wrongfully accused,” Biden stated. “I believe in the judicial system, but I also believe that crude politics infected this process and led to a miscarriage of justice.”

Hunter Biden’s conviction on three counts stemmed from a 2018 episode where he purchased firearms while concealing his history of drug use from authorities, a federal offense. This marked a historic moment, as it made him the first direct lineal descendant of a sitting US president to be found guilty of a crime.

The president, who spent the Thanksgiving holiday with his family in Nantucket, Massachusetts, before returning to Washington, emphasized the personal anguish behind his decision.

“No reasonable person looking at the facts of Hunter’s affairs can come to any other conclusion than that Hunter was elected only because he is my son,” Biden asserted, adding, “Efforts were being made to break Hunter. In trying to break him, they tried to break me – and there’s no reason to think it’s going to stop there. That’s enough.”

He explained, “After making this decision this weekend, there was no point in delaying it any longer. I hope the American people will understand why a father and president would make such a decision.”

The president’s decision to pardon his son comes amidst ongoing political scrutiny and public debate surrounding the initial conviction. The case has drawn immense attention and ignited passionate discussions about the intersection of family, politics, and the justice system.
