Joe Biden meets with Saudi rulers

Jeddah – US President Joe Biden, who arrived in Jeddah, met with Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. They discussed the historic friendship between Saudi Arabia and the United States. They reviewed aspects of cooperation between the two countries in several fields and ways to address challenges in the region and the world. He also praised Saudi Arabia’s role in supporting the UN-brokered ceasefire in Yemen.

On Friday evening, Biden landed at Jeddah King Abdulaziz Airport and was received by Makkah Governor Prince Khalid Al Faisal and Saudi Ambassador to the United States Rima Bint Bandar. He then arrived at Jeddah Al Salam Palace and was warmly welcomed by the Crown Prince. Then King Salman had a meeting with the Crown Prince. He came to Jeddah from Israel. Saudi Arabia’s security needs and global energy issues were discussed, including cooperation in energy projects.

The Saudi visit aims to further strengthen the historic bilateral ties and strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and the US in all areas. Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif, Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif, Saudi Ambassador to the US Reema bint Bandar and Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan participated in the discussion.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and US Representative to Yemen Tim Lenderking also attended the meeting. Biden will attend a summit today (Saturday) with Gulf Cooperation Council leaders from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Leaders of neighboring countries like Egypt, Iraq and Jordan will also attend.
