United States (US) PRESIDENT Joe Biden has met and spoken with his competitor in the US Election, Donald Trump, following a shooting incident at a campaign event in Pennsylvania, Saturday (13/7).

However, White House officials did not say what the two discussed.

Ahead of the meeting, Biden released a statement regarding the shooting that killed a visitor at the campaign event.

“I have been informed of the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I am grateful to hear that he is safe and well,” he said.

“I am praying for him and his family and everyone who was at the event, as we await further information. I am grateful to the Secret Service for rescuing him.”

Biden also condemned the shooting incident once morest Trump. “There is no place for this kind of violence in America. It is abhorrent. We must come together as a nation to condemn it.”

Biden said federal agencies were involved in the investigation into the shooting. A reporter asked if he believed it was an assassination attempt.

“I want to make sure we have all the facts,” Biden said.

While Trump said the bullet went through his right ear, he thanked the Secret Service and other law enforcement for their quick response to the shooting.

“Most importantly, I would like to express my condolences to the families of those who died in the demonstrations, as well as to the families of those who were seriously injured,” he said in the post.

“It is absolutely appalling that such an act might happen in our country. Nothing is currently known regarding the shooter, who has now died,” he added. (BBC/P-5)
