Joe Biden highlighted Colombia’s support for Venezuelan migrants

In the midst of the IX Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, United States, President Joe Bidenhighlighted the Temporary Protection Statute for Venezuelan Migrants in Colombia.

During his speech, Biden highlighted the work of the different countries that have received Venezuelan citizens who have left their territory, due to the government of President Nicolás Maduro, and among them the one he named the most was Colombia.

“Colombia has welcomed millions of Venezuelan refugees, right now migrants can account for up to 10% of the Costa Rican population. There is no single nation that can shoulder this responsibility alone. We are going to help through the World Bank to support countries and communities that are assuming the bulk of the responsibility,” Biden assured.

The US president reiterated: “For example, Colombia received 800 million dollars last yearwhich helps manage the flow of refugees from Venezuela, we are going to do much more by working with the World Bank.”

For his part, President Duque, from his Twitter account, thanked him for the recognition.

“We are motivated by President Joe Biden’s recognition of our Temporary Protection Statute immigration policy. We appreciate his support to serve 1.8 million Venezuelan brothers and sisters and we share his vision on the creation of a hemispheric migration policy,” Duque said on his social network.
