Joe Biden gives in and withdraws his presidential candidacy for the Democratic Party

In a historic decision, President Joe Biden abruptly ended his candidacy for the November elections.

The announcement marked the beginning of a political crisis that had an immediate impact in the United States and virtually around the world, as this election is considered the most momentous in generations.

Biden, who has expressed his determination to complete his term, has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to take on Donald Trump and encouraged his party to rally around her, making her the party’s instant front-runner to win the nomination at its national convention in Chicago in August. Some Democrats have not explicitly endorsed Kamala.

The announcement is the latest blow to a campaign for the White House and comes just days after the attempted assassination of Republican Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.

No potential presidential candidate has ever dropped out of the race so close to an election. Lyndon Johnson did so in 1968, but that was in March, enough time to find a replacement.
