Joe Biden said on Monday that it was “too early to draw definitive conclusions” following the abortive rebellion of the Wagner group in Russia this weekend, with which he assured that Westerners had “nothing to do”.

“We weren’t involved. We have nothing to do with these events”, underlined the American president, referring in particular to NATO, before adding: “It was an internal problem in Russia. »

He assured that the Americans and their allies did not want to “give any pretext (to Russian President Vladimir) Putin to accuse the West and to accuse NATO”.

It is “important” that Westerners remain “completely coordinated”, he also said, recalling that he had met on Saturday with several heads of state and government, and indicating that he counted on their speak once more on Monday.

Joe Biden also intends to remain in “constant contact” with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, to whom he spoke on Sunday to assure him of the support of the United States.

The spectacular outfit of the paramilitary group Wagner between Friday evening and Saturday evening shook Russia.

For 24 hours, Yevgeny Prigojine’s forces seized several military sites in the strategic southwestern city of Rostov and traveled hundreds of kilometers towards Moscow.

Wagner’s leader put an end to his rebellion on Saturday evening, in exchange for immunity promised by the Kremlin for him and his men.
