US PRESIDENT Joe Biden has again issued a stern warning to Iran about possible retaliatory attacks on Israel amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

“Don’t,” Biden said on Saturday (10/8) local time in response to reporters’ questions about his message to Iran.

Biden issued a similar warning in April, before Iran launched rocket and drone attacks on Israel in retaliation for an April 1 airstrike on its diplomatic facilities in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

The Iranian attack killed at least seven members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including two top generals.

Tensions are rising in the Middle East due to the assassination of Hamas Political Chief Ismail Haniyeh on July 31 in the Iranian capital Tehran and the killing of senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr by Israel in Beirut.

Hamas and Iran have accused Israel of killing Haniyeh, while Tel Aviv has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility.

Iran vowed to give Israel “severe punishment” for Haniyeh’s killing on Iranian soil.

Hezbollah, the Lebanese group, is also expected to retaliate after Israel killed Shukr in an airstrike on Beirut’s southern outskirts on July 30.

The escalation comes amid Israel’s ongoing assault on the Gaza Strip that has killed nearly 39,800 Palestinians following an Oct. 7 attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas that killed 1,139 Israelis. (Ant/Z-6)
