L. is the main defendant. He is 14 years old. The Esperanza Complex, the center for minors under 18 in conflict with criminal law located on the outskirts of the city of Córdoba, will be his new destination. It is imputable by law.

There were 18 hits. All in the head, all executed, apparently, with two blunt objects: a chrome iron pipe and a piece of concrete with two iron points.

In the history of this town there is no event of such brutality.

How were the facts

The reconstruction is being carried out by agents of the Homicide and Protection of Persons division of the Cordoba Police. The fact completely surpassed the local force. They act under the guidelines of the Court of Control, Childhood, Adolescence, Juvenile Criminal, Family and Gender Violence and Offenses of that city.

Laboulaye is a city of just over 20,000 inhabitants where children still choose their bikes to get around, mainly to go to school. Joaquín came to school by bicycle, but did not go to class. Together with L. (13), his lifelong friend, they walked out of the school, as corroborated from a neighboring security camera. The image reflects that the friends were together and smiling.

In the same filming, the investigators observed that minutes later L. returned to school alone. On the way, she dropped a cell phone, which she promptly picked up and put in her pants. That followingnoon, the teenager entered the school once more and sat in classes, as if nothing disturbed him.

The few cameras in the city helped identify them quickly. L. was the last person to appear with the missing young man in all the comparison that had been achieved. When the agents find him, he was evasive with his answers. That the plan was to leave school but he regretted it and wanted to go back to class. Regarding the extra cell phone, he assured that it belonged to his father. His father denied that version. But, at that time it was not a piece of information that caught the attention of the police officers.

As the hours passed, the 13-year-old boy was questioned once more. He now told a second version, he recognized that the phone belonged to Joaquín but he had given it to him before escaping from the city. There he installs the bullying version, something denied by the teacher who also spoke with Perfil.com. She assured that both he and Joaquín were victims of continuous ridicule and other mistreatment by his companions, for which reason his friend had found a “substitute” family.

Joaquín’s parents confirmed that Joaquin was a victim of bullying, so the search went off track. The Laboulaye policemen, with little experience in cases like these, instead of searching from the school onwards, that is to say from the last place where he was seen alive (the “zero point” of any cause), began to look for to a supposed “surrogate” family.

It was only on Sunday that troops with experience and lack of progress arrived from Córdoba.

Early in the morning, a group of girls together with a man found Joaquín’s body in an abandoned house on Calle Sarmiento 480, a few meters from the school: “ground zero.” It is a house that students usually go to when they miss classes or when they want to smoke secretly from adults, among other issues.

L. was summoned once more. This time, as the main suspect. And he no longer lied (or at least that is presumed): he confessed that on Thursday they had gone there together, alone, and that it was then that they began to argue. Without any premeditation, he took the pipe and began to hit him on the head. And then he finished it off with the piece of masonry.

“It was something personal, it was not a robbery,” summarized an investigator who spoke with Cadena 3 radio.
