Joaquin Phoenix: The Mastermind Behind Joker 2’s Uncertain Future

A new report indicates that Joaquin Phoenix was the one who had the idea to make Joker 2and that was never planned for the fans.

The most recent installment from DC and Warner Bros. together is not having a good time in theaters. With an opening weekend that falls short of the performance of films like Morbiusand with a reception that is on par with or even worse than films like Madame Webthings are not looking good for the project directed by Todd Phillips.

When the first installment was released in 2019, despite some criticism, it was very well received and even earned Phoenix an Oscar for his incredible portrayal of the outcast Arthur Fleck. However, it seemed like a story that didn’t amount to much more.

Five years later, the release of the sequel perhaps confirms that it was not necessary to continue the story. And, in fact, originally there were no plans to make a second part, but everything indicates that it was the actor himself who wanted it to be made.

Joker 2 was born from a dream of Joaquin Phoenix

According to The Hollywood Reporterthe concept for the sequel came to Phoenix through a dream, which he later shared with the director. Sources close to the production indicated that the main objective of the film was to please the protagonist himself, that it was designed for him.

The source added that initially, both the director and the actor were unsure about going ahead with a sequel. At one point, they even toyed with the idea of creating a Broadway show, inspired by the DC movie. Finally, they decided to make the film, bringing in Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.

Regardless of the results that this film may give, Phillips has already confirmed that there are no intentions of making a third part, and if the box office performance continues this way, Warner is probably not going to push for it to be made.
