Enrique Cerezo, president of Atletico Madrid, has announced the return of Joao Felix from his loan spell at Chelsea.
And all indications were that Chelsea would sign the number 11 shirt permanently, immediately following the end of the 2022-2023 season.
Rather, analysts and technical observers advised that the process of replacing and renewing blood in the ranks of the London club revolve around Felix, to lead the project to return Chelsea to the podium.
“He is now a player for Atletico Madrid once more,” Cerezo confirmed in brief statements to the Spanish newspaper “AS”.
And the 75-year-old revealed, “We were informed yesterday of the news that the new coach of Chelsea (Mauricio Pochettino) does not want him to stay in the team.”
Cerezo did not give any details regarding Pochettino’s unwillingness to retain the services of the owner of the 30 international matches with the Portuguese national team logo.
And regarding Felix’s future with Atletico Madrid, where his contract extends to June of 2027, Cerezo admitted, “We, in turn, did not plan anything.”
“We did not know (of the decision) until less than 24 hours ago. He will return here (Atletico Madrid), and we will see,” the club’s president, Al-Asimi, explained.
