Jiří Langmajer is once again returning to the sea as part of the role. First he was shipwrecked, now he’s looking for treasure

Jiří Langmajer appeared on the screen in the early 1980s. He was only 17 years old when he starred in his first film, Two-Five Boy. However, over the years, Langmajer has become one of the biggest stars on our film scene. Although his characters were not always positive, he always earned recognition from TV viewers for his acting performance. In recent years, however, he mainly played leading roles in romantic comedies. And the actor filmed a really large number of them.

But the producers have now apparently come to the conclusion that enough is enough. They interrupted Langmajer’s string of very similar films based only on the love struggles of a middle-aged man, and last year they sent him to a desert island as part of his new film role. The film Ostrov, in which he starred alongside Jana Plodková, was also a romantic comedy, but the story was set in this exotic environment, where the couple faced many dangers from the island. And that was the biggest attraction for viewers who are used to the typically Czech environment of the city or the countryside.

The film was not an outright flop. However, it is definitely impossible to say that there is no miracle in the field of Czech cinematography. Both spouses were absolutely unbearable at the beginning of the film and behaved completely illogically in certain situations. No one would behave that way in a crisis situation. But it was much worse for them to spend time together than to find themselves on a desert island where there is nothing at all and rescue is nowhere in sight.

Despite the mediocrity of the film The Island, the producers decided to send Langmajer to the sea once more. This time alongside Veronika Khek Kubařová, who is many years younger, who will play his daughter, with whom his character will not have the best of relations. This time the story will take place in Bali, so there will be no shortage of exoticism once more. Just so that exoticism is not the best that the film has to offer us, as it was in the case of The Island.

But finally, the film The Treasure should not be filled with romance, it should focus on the search for an ancient and lost treasure, and thus it should differ from many of Langmajer’s films. Although comedy elements will be an integral part of it, it should be an adventure film through and through. But now it’s still a matter of the creators not overestimating themselves on this adventure side and the film not acting more like a parody of foreign films of a similar genre.

Jiří Langmajer became the first Czech actor who, just before the age of 60, goes to shoot films all over the world. So let’s just hope that the Treasure will be a better spectacle than last year’s Ostrov.
