Foreign Minister Park Jin, who accompanied President Yoon Seok-yeol’s attendance at the Davos Forum in Switzerland, held separate foreign ministers’ meetings with Saudi Arabia and Switzerland to discuss ways to cooperate.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 20th, Minister Park had a bilateral meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on the 18th and reviewed the follow-up measures following Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to Korea last November.
The two ministers agreed that the visit to Korea laid the foundation for a leap in bilateral relations, and that communication between the foreign ministries should be strengthened in order to faithfully implement follow-up measures in the future.
In addition, he proposed to promote practical cooperation in various fields to prepare for the holding of the top-level ‘Strategic Partnership Committee’, which was agreed upon at the time of Crown Prince bin Salman’s visit to Korea.
Minister Park said that cooperation between Korea and Saudi Arabia is expanding to various fields, and also expressed the intention to strengthen cooperation in Saudi Arabia’s NEOM project and future new industries.
On the same day, Minister Park also held talks with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and discussed cooperation between the two countries marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
Minister Park stated that he hoped to strengthen cooperation with Switzerland in high value-added industries such as pharmaceuticals and finance, as well as in the fields of education and science and technology.
Minister Cassis also announced that he officially supports South Korea’s entry into the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member, and expects to cooperate closely with Korea on the UN stage.
Switzerland has been serving as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for two years from this year.
The two ministers agreed to work closely together in future reconstruction and recovery efforts in Ukraine.
