US President Joe Biden confirmed, Sunday, that he is praying for his predecessor, Jimmy Carter, who decided to stop any additional medical treatment in hospitals and move to his home to receive private health care there.
The Carter Foundation announced in a statement on Saturday that the former president, who led the United States from 1977 to 1981, had decided to “spend the rest of his life at home with his family.”
Carter, the eldest among former US presidents and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, resides in Plains, Georgia, with his wife, Rosalynn.
Biden said on Twitter that he and his wife, Jill, “pray” for Carter, and “send him love,” expressing his admiration for his “strength and humility in difficult times.”
And he continued, addressing the 98-year-old former president: “May you complete your journey with mercy and dignity, and may God grant you peace.”
The Carter Foundation tweeted a message of thanks to Biden.
And the last meeting of Biden and his wife with Carter was in April 2021 at the latter’s home in Plains.
Biden’s tweet comes in the wake of an outpouring of praise and appreciation for Carter, as his foundation, which was founded in 1982 to pursue his vision of global politics, responded, saying in a statement on Twitter: “We really appreciate all the kind words we have received from President Carter’s admirers.”
Carter affirmed his commitment to human rights and social justice during the first two years of his term, which witnessed his mediation that led to the signing of the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel.
