The Miami Heat confirmed on Wednesday the first big upset of the NBA play-offs, by eliminating the Milwaukee Bucks, first in the Eastern Conference, in the first round.
After overtaking the Chicago Bulls in the play-in, the Heat, as a pre-designated eighth, did not start as candidates once morest the 2021 champions, but ended up dominating the series and winning 4-1.
In the fifth game, in Milwaukee, the Heat were down by 16 points inside the fourth and final partial, but managed to tie with a launch by Jimmy Butler with 0.5 seconds to go, ending up winning in overtime by 128-126.
Butler, who became the first Heat player with two consecutive play-off games to reach at least 40 points, ended the game with 42 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
The Bucks were worth little with the 38 points and 20 rebounds of Greek Giannis Antetokounmpo, who missed 13 of his 23 free throws, or Khris Middleton’s 33.
After becoming just the sixth pre-designated eighth to knock out the first in the play-offs, the Heat will now meet the New York Knicks, fifth in the regular phase to the East, who have beaten the Cleveland Cavaliers, fourth, by 4-1.
The Golden State Warriors champions are already leading the tie with the Sacramento Kings (3-2), winning away by 123-116, adding the 28th straight play-off round to win at least one away game.
After losing the first two games of the elimination round, the Warriors have already managed the turnaround, led by Stephen Curry (31 points and eight assists), who became the fifth best scorer in play-off history, with 3,727 points, surpassing Magic Johnson.
The Memphis Grizzlies remained in the fight for qualifying for the second round, by beating the Los Angeles Lakers at home, by 116-99, reducing the disadvantage to 3-2.
