Jim Montgomery says the next Patrice Bergeron has arrived in the NHL

Patrice Bergeronas we know, was a true legend during his NHL career.

Considered by most of his peers to be the perfect player, Bergeron literally did everything well on the ice, whether in the offensive or defensive zone.

The ultimate complete player has also won a multitude of Selke Trophies, awarded to the best defensive forward in the NHL, in addition to adding a Stanley Cup to his list of achievements.

But according to the head coach Jim Montgomery Boston Bruins, the next Patrice Bergeron would have already arrived in the NHL and it is the young attacker Wyatt Johnston Dallas Stars.

He who was already his coach in Dallas when he was only a young recruit and who led Bergeron in Boston at the end of his career, he knows them very well and speaks with knowledge of the facts.

The podcast hosts Spittin’ Chicklets have also referred to it during one of their recent episodes.

Back when he was behind the bench of the Dallas Stars, Jim Montgomery already called Wyatt Johnston a young Patrice Bergeron. He has now aged and finished last season leading his team in goals!

The fact that Johnston saw the veteran Joe Pavelskianother NHL legend, taking him under his wing probably only helped the young forward become a better hockey player, he who already had all the qualities to become a star player in the NHL.

  • Aged 21, Wyatt Johnston is a 6’2″/184lbs right-handed center selected in the 1st round (23rd overall) of the 2021 draft. Last season, he compiled a record of 32 goals and 33 assists for a total of 65 points in 82 games. He is currently in the final year of his rookie entry-level contract and will become a restricted free agent at the end of next season.
