The first lady of the United States, Jill Biden, expressed her confidence that her country and Mexico will deepen their relationship in the economic, cultural and security spheres under the leadership of Claudia Sheinbaumwho will assume the Presidency of the Republic today.

In a speech given at the residence of the United States embassy in Mexico, Jill Biden declared that working together can lead the two nations to a better future.

“I know that under Dr. Sheinbaum’s presidency we will continue to build a more prosperous, secure and democratic region, and we will take the next steps in our alliance between the United States and Mexico,” he said.

Jill Biden, who heads the United States delegation that will attend Sheinbaum’s protest ceremony in San Lázaro this Tuesday, considered that there is a special emotion in the country because for the first time a woman will head the federal Executive.

Today, she highlighted, these generations of women will arrive together at the Legislative Palace to see her take the oath.

“Joe and I, and so many Americans, wish him well and look forward to his leadership,” said Jill Biden.

Jill Biden took advantage of her visit to recognize Ambassador Ken Salazar, who in recent weeks had a distance from the now former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who stopped receiving him at the National Palace after criticize the reform of the Judiciary.

“I am honored to be with you tonight to celebrate the strength of the relationship between our countries, at such a historic moment. Ambassador Salazar, thank you for welcoming us to your home. Over the past three years, Joe and I have seen your firm and thoughtful leadership to strengthen our ties with Mexico. We thank you, Hope (his wife), and your beautiful family for your service,” he said.
