MEXICO CITY (AP) — Jhayco got swept up in the Puerto Rican muse for his latest song “Holanda.”

After a time off tour, returning to his homeland made the verses flow easily for this song that he made together with Haze and will be part of his next album.

“It was the first song that connected me once more with the seasoning of us, of the street, of reggaeton, of women and, we tell you, the fronteo, the cars, the culture as such,” Jhayco said in a recent interview. by video call from Valencia, Spain, where he was on tour.

The song features a futuristic video shot in Los Angeles and Miami with human-robots and a computer-animated bat.

“It really expresses the concept, the color and the theme of everything new that is happening with my career,” he said. “Bats represent me a lot, the night fascinates me; there is something so beautiful that the night gives me, there is nothing like the creativity of the night, nothing like the songs that come out at night”.

Jhayco said that as a child he was shy, silent and reserved; now “the bat represents that part of me of being able to spread my wings and fly, but maintaining that characteristic of mine of being mysterious, of being a little darker, darker, in certain things.”

“Holanda” has a sister song, “En to lao” that he also did with Haze and did almost at the same time in Puerto Rico. The video for this song was recorded in Los Angeles.

Both will be part of his next album, which will follow his 2021 “Timelezz”. His new album does not yet have a set release date, but it will also include “Mami chula”, a song he released with the Spanish Quevedo.

“It’s an essential part of what I want to do with this album,” he said regarding “Mami chula.” “It is a very multicultural album, it has many things, many sides, but done to perfection and that with all the love and respect towards each of the genres that we are fusing”.

Recently, Jhayco was a Alex Reed on DJ and producer Tainy’s album “Data” with the songs “Fantasma ‘ AVC” and “Pasiempre”.

“For me it was an honor,” he said. “Before I was entered into the genre as such, I admired and wanted to be part of his songs and that he would give me the opportunity.”

At the end of August, Jhayco will perform in concert in Mexico with dates in Mexico City, the Telmex Auditorium in Zapopan (near Guadalajara) and Monterrey. Then he will continue his tour of the United States, from September to December, with dates in Boston, New Jersey, Seattle, Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Miami, among other cities.

“We are working on the entire tour, the rehearsals, the musicalization…”, he said. “Time passes and one keeps improving, the concepts keep coming out and the show keeps changing; maybe they are the same songs, but new ones are added and the show, with a new air”.
