JFA 2024 Board of Directors Meeting: Tsuneyasu Miyamoto Appointed as 15th President

The Japan Football Association (JFA) held a board of directors meeting on March 23rd, with new officers approved at the regular council meeting on the same day, and Managing Director Tsuneyasu Miyamoto was elected as the 15th JFA president by mutual election among the directors. Advisor Takao Ozawa, WE League player Nahomi Kawasumi (Albirex Niigata Ladies), Chugai Satoko Shizai, senior executive officer of Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Miwa Sudo, representative director of Planet Plan Co., Ltd., director of the Japanese Olympic Committee, vice president of the Japan Volleyball Association, and auditor Nishimoto. Mr. Tsuyoshi (Partner Lawyer at Hibiya Park Law Office, New York State Attorney) was appointed as a director, and Mr. Jun Kawase (Chiba Prefecture FA Managing Director) and Mr. Takuji Tanaka (Doshisha University Visiting Professor Advisor) were reappointed.

The number of directors was significantly reduced from 27 to 15 in accordance with the “Basic Policy for the Board of Directors Structure and Business Execution System” decided at the 7th Board of Directors meeting last year. Additionally, we achieved the target ratio of external directors (25% or more) and female directors (40% or more) stipulated in the Japan Sports Agency’s Sports Organization Governance Code (for medium-sized sports organizations).

Upon taking office, Chairman Miyamoto expressed the passion he had had since his days as a player, saying, “I want to make soccer an even bigger presence in this country.” Strengthen competitions and leagues, 3) Treat kids, girls, and seniors as three priority areas, 4) Optimize measures, 5) Solve social issues through soccer, 6) Build a new growth model, 7) Optimize governance. The board also elected chairs and honorary officers for the three committees: technical, women’s, and refereeing.
Masanaga Kageyama, who is the youth development director of the technical committee, will be appointed as the technical committee chairperson, while Norio Sasaki, the women’s committee chairperson, and Kenji Ogitani, the referee committee chairperson, will be reappointed. Other committees will be selected based on the committee’s reorganization policy.
