The Jewish Community of Chile described as “unacceptable” an advertisement for alcohol, which was published this Monday in a written medium of national circulation. The poster contains an illustration that has become known worldwide for its anti-Semitic connotation. However, from the company they assured that the image only refers to the cash payment of the products.
Controversy generated an advertisement for alcohol published in a national newspaper, which was repudiated by the Jewish Community of Chile.
The poster, belonging to the distributor Arbol Verde de Valparaíso, contains a series of offers of different products. However, what is striking is a illustration recognized worldwide as anti-semitic.
According to the American media BuzzFeedthe image went viral on the networks in 2001, although it had previously circulated in printed format.
As explained, was taken from a cartoon by A. Wyatt Mann, which also contains a caricature of an African-American man in a racist context.
“It is not the written press of Nazi Germany in 1940. It is the Chile of today”said former deputy Gabriel Silber on his Twitter account.
Likewise, he described the image as an “anti-Semitic caricature that in other countries would generate cross-sectional repudiation.”

Jewish Community in Chile: is “unacceptable”
The post was also shared by Jewish Community of Chilebeing branded as “unacceptable”.

Consulted by BioBioChile, from the distributor Arbol Verde, they indicated that the illustration only referred to the payment in cash of the products offered.
In that sense, they ruled out having had the intention of offending the Jewish community.
