Fuzhou, CNN Indonesia —
Jetour has its own way, which makes it different and unique from other Chinese brands in Indonesia. This brand, part of Chery Automobile, only offers SUVs and doesn’t have its own electric car.
Most other Chinese brands in the country, for example Wuling, Chery, BYD, GWM, Neta, Aion and others at least have or have promised to sell electric cars. All of these brands also offer a variety of models, from city cars, hatchbacks to SUVs.
Meanwhile, Jetour sees it from a different perspective, according to the explanation of Kevin Xu Haifeng, Vice President of Jetour International. He said Jetour, which was born in 2018, only focuses on SUVs, for long trips and off-roading.

Based on his explanation, the development of the movement system, including the Jetour model engine, is directed towards off-roading. Meanwhile, for electrification, priority is oriented towards plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
“First I need to confirm my opinion, PHEV is a trend and BEV (battery electric vehicle) not all of them. “Secondly, let’s look at the history of Jetour,” said Kevin.
“Jetour wants to make a global off-road hybrid SUV. That means when talking about off-road, for use in this scenario, of course it’s better if the engine is powerful, this is why we usually (launch) the ICE model first followed by the PHEV model,” he said again. .
Jetour started doing automotive business in Indonesia last March and so far has only offered two SUVs, the Dashing and the X70 Plus. However, Kevin said that more Jetour models would be released in Indonesia.
He revealed that the model was the T2, an off-road style SUV part of the T series Jetour family. Kevin confirmed that the T2 will be released in 2025 domestically and that a PHEV option will be available.
This year, from January to October, total sales of Jetour worldwide reached 439 thousand units. Apart from Indonesia, Jetour also sells cars in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore and the Middle East.
Kevin revealed that although Jetour focuses on PHEV, they are currently developing a BEV model, in the form of a small SUV in the B segment.
“Actually, we have a special BEV during development. To be honest, this is a small SUV segment, we have plans like that. We hope to launch this product in 2026. The BEV model is not only for off road, but also urban use,” he said.
Jetour actually already sells an electric car in the Philippines called Ice Cream. However, this model was not developed from scratch rebadge Chery QQ Ice Cream.

Jetour: The Off-Road Guru With a Twist
Fuzhou, CNN Indonesia – Ladies and gents, gather ’round because it looks like Jetour is taking a swing at the car market without even trying to make a fuss about it. That’s right! No flashy electric cars for them. Instead, they fancy themselves the Indiana Jones of automobiles and have decided, “Why not just focus on SUVs?” It feels a bit like they’ve wandered in from a parallel universe where eco-friendly is maybe less of a priority, and off-roading is the hot new trend.
So, What’s the Deal with Jetour?
Jetour isn’t just another Chinese brand trying to mix things up like a badly thought-out smoothie. No, no, my dear readers. They are part of Chery Automobile and, unlike their competitors—Wuling, Chery, BYD, GWM, and Neta—who are busy wiring plant-based batteries into their pint-sized city cars, Jetour struts in, proud as a peacock, proudly displaying only those blow-your-socks-off SUVs. It’s like they’ve taken one glance at a sedan and said, “You know what? Too boring!”
This isn’t just a whim; according to Kevin Xu Haifeng, the Vice President of Jetour International, they started their journey in 2018 with a grand ambition—supplying not just SUVs, but kick-butt off-roading machines designed for, let’s face it, those long, epic road trips where you definitely don’t want to pull over to ask for directions. The idea of sitting in traffic in a glorified golf cart is just not their style.
The Big SUV Strategy
Kevin mentioned they’re aiming for the “global off-road hybrid SUV” title; a bold ambition, much like toast claiming it’s the number one breakfast food. They kickstarted their Indonesian adventure with just two models – the Dashing and the X70 Plus. Sounds like they’re betting on off-roading, folks, with a serious wink toward plug-in hybrids (PHEV). Who needs full electric vehicles when you can create a beastly SUV that roars like it means business?
Now, you may ask, “What’s next?” Hold onto your hats because the T2 is coming in 2025! It’ll be an off-road styled SUV that will likely make us all rethink our off-road excursions. And if you think that’s exciting, this T2 will have a PHEV option. Yes, folks, they promise to provide you with a vehicle that satisfies both your need for ruggedness and… somewhat less environmental impact—sort of like riding a bike while puffing on a cigar.
Electric Dreams?
Before you start hounding Jetour for not having electric vehicles, fear not! Kevin revealed that they’re plotting a small electric model—imaginatively dubbed “the small SUV in the B segment.” So, while Jetour prioritizes off-roading, they’ve whispered sweet nothings about going electric too, aiming to launch this beauty in 2026. Fancy that! This one won’t be strictly for the mud-loving maniacs; it’s also intended for urban use. Talk about versatility!
However, a quick shout-out is deserved for their current offering in the Philippines, an electric vehicle cheekily nicknamed the Ice Cream. Sounds delicious, doesn’t it? But wait, it gets better! This model is a rebadge of the Chery QQ Ice Cream—because who wouldn’t want the shiny new toy that isn’t even their own creation?
Wrapping It Up
So, there you have it! Jetour is the brand that boldly claims the SUV crown while eyeing the future of PHEVs with a twinkle in their eye. They might be the newbie on the block, but with 439,000 units sold worldwide this year—and a growing presence in countries like Malaysia, Thailand, and beyond—they’re making a mark. While everyone else is busy embracing the electric craze, Jetour is standing tall, SUV at the ready, preparing for adventure and perhaps a cheeky giggle at the competition trying to catch up.
Fuzhou, CNN Indonesia —
Jetour distinguishes itself in the Indonesian automotive landscape with a clear focus on SUVs, setting it apart from many of its Chinese counterparts that offer a broader range of vehicle types, including electric options. As a subsidiary of Chery Automobile, Jetour’s exclusive commitment to sports utility vehicles reflects a strategic choice in a competitive market.
Most other Chinese brands in Indonesia, such as Wuling, Chery, BYD, GWM, Neta, and Aion, have either introduced or committed to rolling out electric vehicles alongside their diverse lineups of city cars, hatchbacks, and SUVs. This trend highlights the growing demand for electrification within the automotive sector across the region.
In contrast, Jetour adopts a distinctive approach under the guidance of Kevin Xu Haifeng, Vice President of Jetour International. Since its inception in 2018, Jetour has carved out a niche exclusively focused on producing vehicles suited for long journeys and off-roading adventures.
Based on his explanation, the development of the movement system, including the Jetour model engine, is directed towards off-roading. Meanwhile, for electrification, priority is oriented towards plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
“Jetour wants to make a global off-road hybrid SUV. That means when talking about off-road, for use in this scenario, of course, it’s better if the engine is powerful, this is why we usually (launch) the ICE model first followed by the PHEV model,” he said again.
Jetour began its operations in Indonesia last March and currently offers two SUV models, the Dashing and the X70 Plus. Kevin has indicated that the lineup will expand, with plans to introduce additional models tailored to the needs of Indonesian consumers.
He revealed that the upcoming T2, part of Jetour’s T series, is an off-road SUV expected to launch domestically in 2025, and it will also feature a PHEV option, underscoring the brand’s commitment to hybrid technology.
This year, from January to October, total sales of Jetour worldwide reached 439 thousand units. Apart from Indonesia, Jetour also sells cars in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, and the Middle East, demonstrating its growing international presence.
Kevin disclosed that while Jetour’s current focus is on PHEV, the company is also in the development stages of a BEV model targeted at the small SUV B segment. Scheduled for release in 2026, this model will cater to both urban environments and off-road enthusiasts.
Jetour already sells an electric vehicle in the Philippines called Ice Cream; however, this model is essentially a rebadged version of the Chery QQ Ice Cream, rather than a wholly original design.

Words reflects a deliberate strategy to cater to a lifestyle that values powerful, rugged vehicles. Kevin mentions that they often launch Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) models first, subsequently offering Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) versions to meet the needs of both adventure enthusiasts and environmentally-conscious consumers.
Jetour’s current lineup in Indonesia consists of the Dashing and the X70 Plus, which have already made their debut. However, there are plans for more models, including the T2, designed with an off-road aesthetic and expected to launch in 2025, equipped with a PHEV option to provide a balance of performance and efficiency.
While Jetour’s emphasis on PHEVs doesn’t entirely rule out electric models, it frames their approach to electrification as a developing aspect of their portfolio. As revealed by Kevin, they are working on a BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) that will cater to both off-road conditions and urban usage, projected for a 2026 release. This shows Jetour’s intent to gradually adapt to the shift towards electrification while maintaining a strong focus on the SUV segment.
Currently, Jetour does have an electric offering in the Philippines known as the Ice Cream, although it’s a rebadged version of the Chery QQ Ice Cream rather than a model developed in-house. This indicates that while Jetour is exploring electric vehicle options, they are still in the nascent stages of developing unique electric models.
Jetour’s strategy revolves around capitalizing on the SUV market, particularly for off-road driving, while also beginning to explore electrification in a way that aligns with their brand identity. As the automotive landscape continues to shift toward sustainable options, Jetour seems poised to blend traditional powertrain options with hybrid and electric vehicles as part of its future offerings.
