JetBlue Tweaks Routes, Cuts Unprofitable Flights
JetBlue Airways is optimizing its route network by cutting unprofitable flights and redeploying aircraft equipped with its premium Mint service to stronger markets. This reflects a continued focus by CEOs Joanna Geraghty on achieving consistent profitability.
Specifically, From Fort Lauderdale, Florida flights to Jacksonville, Florida will be stopped, while service will be dropped between New York Chathamícias John F. Kennedy International Airport and Austin, Texas; Houston, Texas; Miami and Milwaukee. Service from Westchester, New York to Milwaukee is also ending. An additional change sees the end of service to San Jose California.
These route adjustments aim to improve profitability in key markets and allow JetBlue to focus resources.
In the 2025 travel season, JetBlue will reduce its presence in Europe. The airline plans to eliminate its second JFK-Paris Flight and its seasonal service to London’s Gatwick Airport from London Gatwick. JetBlue will continue to serve Miami from Boston.
These changes, alongside a previously announced reduction in service to non-daily destinations, were announced the same week JetBlue’s financial results surpassed expectations in terms of revenue and bookings.
"Recently, we made some network adjustments in certain markets, removing some underperforming flying from our schedule, allowing us to redeploy resources, including our popular Mint service, toward high-demand markets and new opportunities," JetBlue said
The post-pandemic period has brought shifting layover demand and JetBlue is responding with strategic route adjustments.
JetBlue indicated its focus on reducing costs to combat challenges like the Pratt & Whitney engine grounding
Customers affected by the route changes can choose to alternate flights or receive a refund.
