JetBlue agrees to buy Spirit for $3.8 billion

The US low-cost airline JetBlue reached an agreement on Thursday for the acquisition of its competitor Spirit for $3.8 billion.

In the deal announced Thursday, Jetblue is offering a cash payment for Spirit shares, at a price of $33.50 per unit, 38% higher than the stock’s closing price on Wednesday.

Both companies expect to complete the transaction before the end of the first half of 2024.
