Jerry Jones: “If we didn’t want CeeDee Lamb, we wouldn’t have offered him what we offered him”

The contract situation between CeeDee Lamb and the Dallas Cowboys is getting closer to a resolution. NFC East team owner Jerry Jones expressed optimism about contract negotiations with the wide receiver after the team’s practice in Oxnard, California.

“I think I am (optimistic), and when I say it it doesn’t sound all that rosy. The facts are I think we’ll be together. I don’t want to speak for him, I’m not trying to do that,” Jones said. “However, we wouldn’t have offered him what we’ve offered him if we didn’t want him to be here.”

Multiple reports said the Cowboys contacted Lamb by phone last week and America’s Team offered him an annual salary in the region of $33 million.

According to Spotrac, Lamb will play the 2024 season with a salary of $17.99 million, the product of the fifth-year option of his rookie contract. However, in his first four seasons as a professional he earned $14.13 million.

That salary seems small for the production of the Oklahoma graduate because he is coming off leading the NFL in receptions after catching 135 of the 181 passes thrown in his direction. In addition, He racked up 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns, career highs..

The Dallas Cowboys wide receivers

Even though Lamb has been absent from Cowboys practices, the team has plenty of inexperienced wide receivers. In addition to Brandin Cooks and Jalen Tolbert, Dallas has KaVontae Turpin, Jalen Brooks, Jalen Cropper, Tyron Billy-Johnson, Ryan Flournoy, Cam Johnson, Racey McMath, Deontay Burnett, David Durden and Kelvin Harmon under contract. However, there are still a few days left for teams to trim their rosters to finalize the 53 players who will start the 2024 season.
