Jerome Kym (ATP 401) failed in the first qualifying round of the Geneva Open on Saturday.
The 20-year-old Argovian, whose career was hampered by a knee injury, lost 7-6 (7/2) 6-7 (5/7) 6-4 in 2h54 ‘in front of the French Arthur Cazaux (ATP 197), seeded No. 2 in the table. He had received an invitation for these qualifications.
Jerome Kym fought like a lion on the clay courts of Parc des Eaux-Vives, recovering to one set everywhere following finding himself two points from defeat at 5/5 in the second tie-break. He conceded the only break of the third set in the last game, following missing a ball at 5-5.
Marc-Andrea Hüsler (ATP 82) will therefore be the only Swiss entered in the final draw of the ATP 250 in Geneva. The Zurich left-hander will face the Chinese Wu Yibing (ATP 57) in the 1st round on Monday.
