Jeremy Renner is recovering in intensive care following two surgeries after being injured in a snow shoveling incident

(CNN) — “Hawkeye” star Jeremy Renner is recovering following two surgeries following suffering “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries” in an accident plowing snow on New Year’s Day in Nevada, a spokesman for the actor said.

As of Monday night, Renner was in the intensive care unit in “critical but stable condition,” the spokesperson said.

So far, the 51-year-old actor has undergone two surgeries to treat injuries he sustained in the crash, a source close to the actor previously told CNN.

Renner was hospitalized Sunday following a “weather related accident” while shoveling snow, his representative Sam Mast confirmed to CNN on Monday.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies responded to a “traumatic injury” involving Renner in the Mount Rose Highway area of ​​Reno.

Deputies found the injured Renner and arranged for his transport to an area hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release, adding that the actor was the only person involved in the crash.

At the time of the accident, parts of western Nevada were snow covered.

Renner was clearing his driveway for family members to come out of his residence following celebrating the holidays together, Mast told CNN on Tuesday. Members of Renner’s family were with him when the accident occurred.

The Reno Gazette Journal reported that Renner had been helping a stranded motorist at the time of the crash, citing Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. Mast said she was helping clear a neighbor’s driveway.

Renner has shared several videos and photos on his verified social media accounts that show him in snowy conditions, including an Instagram video posted two weeks ago in which the actor appears to be driving a snowplow.

Renner’s family issued a statement Monday night thanking hospital staff and first responders while the actor remained hospitalized.

“Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses who care for him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, the Washoe County Sheriff, City of Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve, and the Carano and Murdock families.” said a statement from his spokesman. “They are also tremendously overwhelmed and grateful for the outpouring of love and support from their fans.”

Renner stars in the Paramount+ series “Mayor of Kingstown” and is best known for his role as Hawkeye in several Marvel movies.
