21-year-old defenseman Jérémie Biakabutuka forced the hand of the St. Louis Blues and signed a three-year contract. Never drafted into the NHL, Biakabutuka had been invited to the Blues’ development camp earlier this summer.
After his last campaign in the QMJHL last season, Biakabutuka made his professional debut in the American League, defending the colors of the Grand Rapids Griffins for three games.
In his last season in the QMJHL in 2022-2023, with the Charlottetown Islanders, he tallied 17 goals and 42 points in 56 games.
Since 2018, Biakabutuka has also worn the colors of the Val-d’Or Foreurs and the Rimouski Océanic in the QMJHL.
First-round pick, 17th overall, by the Foreurs in the 2018 QMJHL draft, Biakabutuka played 243 games on the Quebec junior circuit. He finished his time in the QMJHL with 40 goals and 118 points.
