The People Power Party Nomination Management Committee announced that 29 out of 849 nomination applicants were ineligible.

Jeong Young-hwan, chairman of the diplomatic committee, met with reporters following the fourth meeting at the central party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, held on the followingnoon of the 6th and said, “After closely verifying the criminal history and ineligibility of all nomination applicants, 29 nomination applicants were confirmed as ineligible.” . The diplomatic mission will not allow these 29 people to participate in the interviews starting on the 13th and will exclude them from the nomination screening process.

Members of the National Assembly who have served three or more terms in the same district will be subject to a penalty during the primary, and it has been decided to apply this without exception to all districts where there is a change in voters due to the reorganization of administrative districts, areas where the party is weak, and multiple-term lawmakers in districts that include those elected by other parties. The objections of some multi-elected lawmakers were not accepted. Chairman Chung explained the purpose, saying, “It reflects the mission committee’s will to realize the generational change desired by the people by minimizing the entry barrier for political newcomers.”

Standards for political newcomers were also established. If a person has experience running for a major party position or public office election (intra-party primary) in a party other than the People Power Party, he or she is judged not to be a political newcomer. Even if he has never participated in the main election, he is not a political rookie as he has only participated in primary elections for other political parties.

The Embassy Committee plans to conduct regional interviews starting on the 14th, following the Lunar New Year holiday. Afterwards, as soon as the interviews are completed, the plan is to announce the single recommendation, priority recommendation, and primary region, as well as the cut-off results for active members.
