Jeon Han-gil, a lecturer on Korean history for the civil service exam, said following watching the movie ‘Founding War’, “If you have something sensitive, whether it’s a movie or a book, watch it first before talking regarding it.” “People who haven’t seen it, shut up,” he said, adding, “It’s up to each person to make their own judgment.”

On the 15th, Mr. Jeon said on his social media, “I watched ‘Founding War,’ which can be said to be the hottest movie recently. There were people who said not to see it as a politically biased movie, so I was even more curious regarding what was going on.” I wrote a review.

He said, “The content of the movie presented the achievements of Syngman Rhee, the first president of the Republic of Korea, in a documentary format, and seemed to be a film made with the intention of saying, ‘At least he has these achievements, so let’s learn more regarding them,’ and ‘Let’s correct the misconceptions that have been known so far.’” He said, “It was a good movie, and I felt like it was a movie that the director worked hard to produce, so it was worth the money spent on it.”

He said, “As we are approaching the general election, each party and hard-core supporters seem to be more sensitive due to the calculation of pros and cons of votes, but I hope everyone will just watch it coolly and make their own evaluations.” Don’t get ridiculed. “I see too many people talking regarding achievements that are advantageous to their line and hiding and deceiving those that are unfavorable,” he said.

Mr. Jeon said, “It is an extremely personal opinion,” and added, “If there is something sensitive, whether it is a movie or a book, watch it first and then talk regarding it. “People who haven’t seen it, shut up,” he said. “It’s up to each person to make their own judgment.” “Don’t try to teach while showing off.”

He evaluated Syngman Rhee’s merits and demerits by dividing them into △independence activist, △first president following liberation, △6.25 and dictatorship for long-term rule. He said, “Any person is evaluated based on their merits and demerits,” and added, “‘Some people are unconditionally disliked and others are unconditionally liked’ cannot be a correct evaluation, and if you evaluate them that way, it indicates that there is a problem with you.” He also said, “It will be up to each person whether to view the ball as bigger or the result as bigger.”

Lastly, Mr. Jeon added, “I want to make it clear that I have no intention of engaging in politics now or in the future. I think and write based on common sense without being biased towards left or right, progressive or conservative.”
