Elaph: Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez is preparing to release a new album, nine years following the release of her last album.
Lopez chose the title for the album, “This Is Me… Now,” which will be an updated version of “This Is Me… Then,” which is her third album, which was released 21 years ago and achieved great success.
The new album will contain 13 songs and is expected to be released globally on November 25. This means Jennifer’s return to the music scene, as her last album “Bronx Diva” was released in 2014 with Capitol Records.
Recorded in Los Angeles last year, the album features beloved songs including “To Be Yours,” “Mad in Love” and “Greatest Love Story Never Told,” as well as “Dear Ben Pt. II,” the follow-up to “Dear Ben Which was included in her album “This Is Me…Then”.
The penultimate song is even called “Midnight Train to Vegas,” a very clear reference to their surprise summer 2022 wedding.
According to Billboard, Lopez has collaborated with producers Roger Shahid, Angel Lopez and Jeff “Getty” Gettleman, and other collaborators include Hit-Boy, Tay Keith and Yeti Beats.
Lopez announced her concert on September 21, in cooperation with Apple Music, at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, through a flyer that she distributed to her fans registered on her website to receive her email and live broadcast on Instagram, offering tickets for free to residents of Los Angeles specifically.
Lopez signed a partnership with BMG to release her new work, and the company’s CEO, Thomas Quesfeld, expressed his pleasure in cooperating with Lopez and her team, saying: “We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with her and her team to release her first album in nearly a decade.”
It is noteworthy that Lopez spoke regarding her ninth album in an interview with Vogue magazine, which was published on November 8, 2022, and the magazine described it as “the most honest work she has ever done.”
Lopez said regarding the upcoming album: “[إنه] Kind of the icing on the cake for me as a person and as an artist, people think they know things regarding what happened to me along the way, and the guys I was with – but they really have no idea, and a lot of times they get it wrong. There is a part of me that was hiding a side of myself from everyone. “And I feel like I’m somewhere in my life, finally, where I have something to say regarding this.”
“When I make my best music or my best artwork, it’s when I’m happy and full and feeling a lot of love,” Lopez added, a feeling that also serves as the tone for her new album. Rob Haskell of Vogue noted that he had listened to some rough tracks of Lopez’s project, describing them as “sad and confessional songs, meditations on her past experiences, and upbeat, upbeat ballads that celebrate love and sex.”
On November 28, 2022, Lopez spoke regarding her upcoming album once more during an Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe, where she shared the special reason that prompted her to release “This Is Me… Now” 20 years following “This Is Me… then”: “Twenty years ago, I fell in love with the ‘love of my life’. I was working on an album, and it was called This Is Me…then.” “It was all regarding capturing that moment in time,” she said. “Now, the most amazing, incredible thing has happened that we are meeting once more and getting married. The reason we are here is because I want to capture this moment in time because it is better than the first time.”
