Amazon founder Bezos is expanding his growing real estate empire with a new waterfront mansion. The 59-year-old is in good company on the exclusive island of Indian Creek. Recently, prices on the island have risen sharply. The region attracts some of the richest people in the world.

The small man-made island of Indian Creek northeast of Miami is getting a new resident: According to the finance portal Bloomberg, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is said to have bought a villa on the water for 68 million US dollars. The 9,000-square-foot, three-bedroom pool home was built in 1965 and was formerly owned by MTM Star International.

The small island is also known as “Billionaires Bunker”. With his wealth, Bezos would be the richest resident on the island. With the purchase of the villa, the real estate empire of the 59-year-old continues to grow.

The Amazon founder has bought several houses in recent years. These include a nine-acre Beverly Hills mansion in Washington, DC, which he bought for $165 million in 2020, and an estate in Maui. He owns properties in Manhattan and Seattle, as well as a 300,000-acre ranch in Texas, home to the launch site for Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket.

Bezos, who holds a 10 percent stake in the company he founded in 1994, will be worth $163 billion as of 2023, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. He is the third richest person in the world, behind Elon Musk and LVMH owner Bernard Arnault. The island has only regarding 40 residential buildings, a country club and its own police department.

Recently, real estate prices on the island and in some areas of Miami have soared as the region has attracted some of the world’s wealthiest people. Hedge fund manager Ken Griffin, investor Dan Loeb and private equity investor Josh Harris have also secured lavish waterfront mansions in Miami Beach since the pandemic.

With the purchase, Bezos is going back to his roots. He went to school in Miami following his Cuban-born stepfather got a job in Florida.
