Jeddah: On the first day following the mid-summer vacation, due to a power outage at the Jeddah International Indian School, the girls’ section of the school held a discussion with the school authorities under the leadership of representatives of the parents’ WhatsApp group regarding shifting the school to online classes for an indefinite period.
There are more than 500 people in the WhatsApp group of parents. After discussions and communication through it, a group of parents came forward. The parents said that the school authorities gave in to the discussion due to pressure from their side. About 20 issues raised by the parents were discussed in detail. The parents said that they received the reply from the management side that the obstacle was not getting the approval of the higher committee on most of the issues raised.
The authorities have assured that the online classes will be stopped and the school classes will be changed to normal once the urgent repairs including air conditioners are completed as soon as possible.
The parents also raised the issue of quality of education, permanent appointment of teachers and increase in salary of teachers. It was suggested that a committee of parents should be formed and through it, the issues faced by the school students should be discussed at fixed times and possible remedial measures should be taken.
Parents’ representatives said that they agreed in principle. The parents informed that they have promised to hold a meeting with the school management committee at least once a month. School principal in charge, management committee members and admin manager participated in the discussion from the side of the school. About 15 people, including women, participated in the discussion on behalf of the parents.
