First, you should know that the Quebec adaptation of Survivorled by Patrice Belangeris a few days away from its grand premiere, which will take place on Sunday.
Remember that Jean-Thomas Jobin, a big fan of the original series, was to host the analysis program broadcast immediately following the new reality show from Noovo. He was even part of the shoots that lasted eight weeks in the Philippines.
However, the comedian unexpectedly announced that was no longer the case as he decided to step down as a host because he ‘would have felt like he lacked integrity’.
In an honest text, the winner of the first season of Big Brother Celebrities explains that “sometimes, with a little hindsight, we think and we do business”. He adds that he felt a sense of imposture in the face of the animation of this analysis program.
He explains his decision like this:
“First: since I was there for my position there, I know the entire course of the season and the order of eliminations. Even if I intended to be transparent and to say it from the outset during the first analysis show and to DO EVERYTHING so as not to unconsciously tint my analyzes with potential spoilers, I visualized the whole thing and I concluded that it was a bit of “wishful thiniking”. I would have had to constantly walk on eggshells, each sentence would have been an exercise in “if I say that, will viewers and my collaborators try to deduce why I say that? and sure that would have hurt the organic side so I’m supposed to lead the conversations. I would have felt like a tightrope walker who is constantly afraid of making a mistake.
He adds by explaining how much he became attached to the candidates, having spent no less than two months rubbing shoulders with them.
“Another not insignificant point: I was part of the casting process, I saw the players for a long time in the different stages of audition, I attended all their journeys, their ups, their downs. I had no contact with them during the game, but I followed them with emotions, and I spoke to them for the most part, long following their elimination, to thank them for giving themselves so generously. I got very attached to them. It sounds absurd perhaps seen from the outside, but that too would tint such animation which ideally wants to be without bias.
“I may be too purist, but unfortunately, I feel incompatibility with the role of animator. I would have felt like I lacked integrity. I hope you will understand,” he concluded.
In addition, the person who will replace him is the one who was almost at the helm of the show, Benoit Gagnon. The latter also mentioned to us recently in an interview that not winning this contract had made him feel heartbroken.
Survivor Quebec begins on April 2 on Noovo.
