French actor Jean Reno revealed the scenes of his meeting with a French mafia member while preparing to film the movie “22 Bullets” in 2010.
Reno explained in television statements that the film’s events revolve around a gangster who was shot with 22 bullets in his body, and survived that incident, and the story is taken from a book, indicating that he sat with the real hero of that experience.
He added that he sat with a French mafia man who was exposed to a similar incident from which he survived, as he was hit by 22 bullets in his body at the hands of his opponents, and they held two sessions together.
Jean Reno said: “I went to meet the gangster with my wife at his lawyer’s house. He had a small motorcycle and a helmet so you wouldn’t recognize him. He always makes rounds and checks that the police are not there, and then he shows up.”
Reno continued: “I said this stupid sentence to him the second time and asked him what happened with the four men who shot him. We were having a normal conversation, but he stopped and the spirit of the mafia man came out of him and said, ‘God knows best.’”
Jean Reno pointed out that following that moment, the gangster stopped talking to him throughout the evening, even though he was talking to the rest of the people present, explaining, “I felt stupid. Do not ask the mafia man. He was definitely the one who killed them.”
He said that the gangster was sitting in his car at the time of the accident and was shot from behind. The seats and the car’s body reduced his damage from the accident, and he survived. He pointed out that he lost his right arm and was using his left to kill, and half of his face was hanging down following the bullets pierced it.
He pointed out that the gangster informed the director following the screening of the movie “22 Bullets” that Jean Reno had made his character more delicate than he actually was.
Jean Reno continued, “I do not like to be too cold, if I am a hired killer, in my mind, and perhaps I am wrong. I like to open the door a little to mercy and sacrifice, and I did that in my films Leon, The Professional, and 22 Bullets.”
