In Tchibanga in the south-west of Gabon, the residence of former Minister Jean Pierre Douckaga Kassa in the Ibanga district refused people this Saturday, October 26, 2024. “Tatha” as the people of Massanga like to call him, accompanied by his brothers Jean Charles Yembit Yembit and Chrysanthe Boussamba organized a so-called citizens’ meeting.
The meeting mobilized residents of the 11 neighborhoods of the provincial capital of Nyanga and the department of Mougoutsi. Objective: raise awareness and explain the content of the new constitution before inviting them to adopt a responsible attitude on November 16, the day of the referendum vote.
“We met in Tchibanga as a prelude to the referendum campaign which will happen in almost two weeks. It was good that we found our parents, our dads, our moms so that we could discuss the constitution that was put in place. We spoke with them, they had questions, they needed us to clarify some gray areas. We gave them necessary explanations of the content of the new constitution. And today in truth, we are not yet in the campaign, but it was important to show the populations the evolution of our new fundamental law. Since it has evolved positively. We asked them to read this constitution carefully and to vote with soul and conscience.“, declared Jean Pierre Douckaga Kassa”.
This meeting was preceded by that with the district chiefs and notables of the city of Tchibanga.
As a reminder, the electoral campaign opens on November 6. It will close on November 15 at midnight. The vote will take place on November 16, 2024.
On November 16, Gabonese people will have the choice between two ballots. Green to vote yes or red to vote no to the draft constitution which provides for a presidential regime in place of the semi-parliamentary regime in force before the coup d’état of August 30, 2023 which overthrew the regime of the former president Ali Bongo Ondimba.
