A family company that sells cork stoppers was rewarded on Tuesday by the Geneva Industrial Services at a ceremony rewarding companies that make remarkable efforts in terms of energy saving.
Jean-Paul Gaud SA, named following its boss, handles up to a million corks a week. The company of twelve employees deals with the marking of the corks that it imports from Portugal.
“We will often put the name of the winery, the name of the person, a vintage. It is very variable”, explains Jean-Paul Gaud in the 12:45 of the RTS.
After more than 85 years of existence, the company works with machines from different eras. “This laser marker is very energy efficient. So it is very interesting in terms of energy cost for us, unlike this ink marker, which will be dismantled in a few weeks to be replaced by a new generation laser machine as well. “, explains the boss.
Investment of 12,000 francs
To make this change, the cork maker had to spend more than 12,000 francs last year. However, this investment enabled him to save the equivalent of the annual consumption of 19 households.
“We save more than 30% with these two machines. It’s really an essential work tool for the sustainability of the company”, explains Jean-Paul Gaud.
However, he cannot change everything in one go. “We have to advance at the length of our steps. And we always do calculations, tight checks before making our investments.”
