Dissidence and successions in sight in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques

One Lassalle can hide another: on Monday, Julien Lassalle decided to take over from his brother, in the 4e constituency of Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Deputy Jean Lassalle has, in fact, thrown in the towel, on May 2, ” for health reasons “. With the same bib “Let’s resist! »the new application is that of a farmer “to defend rurality”. Same thing for his deputy, Véronique Mongaston, who is an operator in the Basque Country.

Because this duality is essential in a 4e constituency divided up in 1986 by Charles Pasqua: the Minister of the Interior at the time drew a “Basco-Béarnaise”, where since crowd the candidates, almost as many as there are summits. Thus are already in the ranks, a departmental adviser MoDem Annick Trounday, a student in the name of Reconquest! (Margaux Taillefer), the only socialist who wears the colors of the PS in the department (Iñaki Echaniz, which is contested by environmental challengers) as well as Egoitz Urrutikoetxea for the party patriotic (“patriot”, nationalist) of the Basque left EH Bai (for Euskal Herria Yes – “Basque country yes”).

The Pyrénées-Atlantiques preferred Emmanuel Macron both in the second and in the first round of the presidential election, just as in 2017. And the majority in place retained successions in continuity, while dissidence is emerging, to date rather at left. Thus in Béarn, in the 1re constituency (Pau) as in the second (East-Béarn) the outgoing MoDem should represent themselves under the wing of François Bayrou, mayor of the city-prefecture and president of the MoDem. This is the case respectively of Josy Poueyto and Jean-Paul Mattei. They will probably have, as in 2017, at least ten competitors, including each time an elected official chosen by the Nupes.

Same abundance this time in the west, between Pau and Jurançon. But here things get seriously complicated with the non-investiture on the left by the Nupes of the outgoing PS deputy, David Habib. Elected since 2002 in this 3e constituency which combines a rural territory and the industrial basin of Lacq, he nevertheless decided to represent himself not without giving a few scratches: “Socialists agree to no longer be what they are. Me, I am proud to remain what I am. A man of the republican and deeply European left (…). Today, the PS is dead. »

In difficulty in the first round in 2017 (with only 25.42% of the vote), David Habib had rectified the situation the following Sunday with 53.96%. Five years later, the man who is the sixth vice-president of the outgoing National Assembly is confident, although his position suffers from « bibles » aroused by some of his socialist friends, who find that a fifth term is not necessary. Same story, of course, on the side of La France insoumise, which might present a candidate once morest him.
