During a speech on Saturday January 28, former presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon said that hoarding money is “immoral”. He also felt that “the rich are responsible for the misfortune of the poor”, reports BFM TV.

Saturday January 28, Jean-Luc Mélenchon did not mince his words during a speech delivered in Villiers-le-Bel, when he was present for the wishes of the LFI deputy for Val-d’Oise, Carlos Martens Bilongo . “Yes, the rich are responsible for the misfortune of the poor“, he notably asserted.

The leader of LFI, although he made it clear that he did not make it a personal matter, regretted: “We have in our country the worst offense […] : the first billionaire in the world is French“. Jean-Luc Mélenchon refers to Bernard Arnault, boss of LVMH, who is the richest man in the world.

“Hoarding money is immoral”

The former presidential candidate did not stop there since he also felt: “Hoarding money is immoral, […] for what is accumulated is what has been taken from others. That’s life, you have to pay for what you do, but there it no longer makes sense, a person who has what 20 million others have, it’s immoral.”

Like him, many left-wing figures have attacked billionaires. This is notably the case of Francois Ruffin who declared that Bernard Arnault “does not have 400,000 times more merit than a worker“. For her part, Nathalie Arthaud explained that the boss of LVMH as well as Vincent Bolloré “do not have problems of pensions, but of succession“. Marine Tondellier wishes to see “a France without a billionaire“.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon also once once more opposed the pension reform and wishes “a very big walk“. He wants it to take place over a weekend so that the mobilization is even stronger. He estimates: “They must be able to participate in the fight. All together ! Salaried workers, unemployed, retired, students, high school students even if necessary, and it is necessary, all together, we are the people“.
