The singer reacts to the publication of several biographies retracing his journey. He says he is opposed to them, and regrets in a press release published this Thursday that he cannot ban them.
Jean-Jacques Goldman breaks his usual media silence to publicly oppose any publication retracing his life and his career as an artist.
“I have never “authorized” or given my agreement for any book or biography,” writes Jean-Jacques Goldman in a press release published this Thursday on the official X account (ex-Twitter) of Sony Music France, his record company .
And the singer continues, in reference according to RTL to a biography by Jean Bender to be published in early 2024:
“And I don’t have the power to ban them, even when the author, an ex-musician whom I haven’t seen for over 40 years, claims to be my friend.”
Jean Bender, who presents himself as a childhood friend of Jean-Jacques Goldman, published in 2021 a work entitled It will suffice for a sign, and presented as “an exclusive testimony” on the “intimate Goldman”. He now roams the TV sets, telling anecdotes regarding the singer and speaking on his behalf.
“I’m sad”
This press release comes a month and a half following the publication of Goldmana biography of the historian and academic Ivan Jablonka.
Jean-Jacques Goldman had already criticized the publication of Jablonka’s book. “I have never met this author, neither have my friends, and I am sad for all the people who are duped into buying books that talk regarding me,” he declared on August 23 in The Chained Duck.
Published in mid-August, the Goldman essay focuses on the reasons why the singer of I Walk Alone experienced sudden popularity and maintained it as fashions passed. Ivan Jablonka had sought to consult the singer’s archives, but his request remained unanswered.
