From the Swiss to Hollywood
Zoom in on the Swiss who, all trades combined, have managed to find a place for themselves in the Mecca of cinema.
“I feel like I’m living a waking dream… and it’s been going on for twenty-three years!” This is how Jean-Denis Haas, a 45-year-old from Lucerne who arrived in California in 1999, sums up his life. He did not go through the Hollywood box. He landed directly in San Francisco, to work as an animator at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), the famous special effects company founded by George Lucas, and never moved from the “City by the Bay”. , very happy to live there from his passion. “I work in the industry that made me dream as a kid with films like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters… All day, I am immersed in these universes that marked me so much. I mightn’t ask for more. And besides, now, with the covid, I work from home, which allows me to spend more time with my wife and children. It’s just crazy!”
