JDA Dijon Basketball: A Strong Contender for the 2023-24 French Championship Season

2023-09-14 14:49:00

A few days before the resumption of the French Basketball Championship, TrashTalk takes an overview of the 18 teams who will compete during the 2023-24 season. On the daily menu? The JDA Dijon. The mustard quota of the elite has been quite quiet this summer, maintaining a group capable of keeping the team in the top 4 of the championship.

Dijon. Hot, medium-hot, mild, grainy mustard… There is necessarily a variety of sauce to describe the current form of the local basketball club. Right now ? It’s a very strong mustard, the kind that will irritate you even if it didn’t seem that bad on the shelf. Because at the JDA, things are strong. Top 4 in the championship last season, all that remains is to get through the course of a really good Playoff campaign, because the club is producing good things, while certainly benefiting from the shadow cast by ASVEL and Monaco on the media plan. Moving forward without anyone bothering us is still good, very cool anyway.

Last season’s results:

French Championship: 4th with 21 victories and 13 defeats. Defeat in the quarter-finals of the Playoffs, 2-0 once morest Bourg. Coupe de France: defeat in the semi-final once morest ASVEL, 85-69.

The full squad (known to date) for the 2023-24 season:

Leaders: David Holston, Jonathan Rousselle Backs: Cameron Hunt, Robin Ducoté Wingers: Gregor Hrovat, Dylan Affo Mama Power Forwards: Allan Dokossi, Aleksandar Lazic Pivots: Jacques Alingue, Vitalis Chikoko

Player to watch: David Holston

It is part of the furniture in Dijon. Ninth season in Côte d’Or, he’s the boss. Worry ? He is now 37 years old and age is not known to particularly affect a player’s performance, except if his name starts with LeBron and ends with James. David Holston is not immortal, he is however guarantor of the identity of the Dijon game. His health problems at the end of last season cast doubt on his level of play, which has so far been more than adequate for the French championship, and the real key to the JDA season will be to find technical relays capable of taking on leadership if it is not there.
