Vance took the podium on the third day of the national convention. There he also formally accepted the nomination as Donald Trump’s vice-presidential candidate.
The speech was an opportunity for the national assembly, the Republicans and most Americans to get to know the former marine infantryman, lawyer, investor and senator who may become number 2 in the country’s board and care for the next four years.
Grew up in a small town
– I grew up in a small town in Ohio where people say what they mean, use their hands to build and wholeheartedly love God, family, the local community and the country. But it was also a place that has been discarded and forgotten by the ruling class in Washington, Vance said.
He believes career politicians like President Joe Biden are responsible for a trade policy and for wars that harm communities like his.
– Donald Trump’s vision is simple – will not serve Wall Street, we will stand up for working people. We will not import foreign labor, but fight for American citizens, the vice presidential candidate continued, adding:
– We need a leader who stands up for American companies, who fight to get the factories back.
Had mother with her
He also singled out his mother, who sat in the audience and watched her son’s meteoric career in politics.
“I never imagined I’d be standing here tonight,” Vance said. It has been less than two years since he received his first public office, as a senator from Ohio.
He has also gone through a transformation from being a staunch Trump critic – warning that he might become an American Hitler – to becoming one of the former president’s most loyal defenders.
