JD Vance called Trump Hitler – becomes vice presidential candidate

It was announced by Trump on the first day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

– I have decided that the person best suited to become the vice president of the United States is Senator JD Vance from Ohio, writes Trump on his own social medium Truth Social.

At the age of 39, Vance represents a completely different generation than the 78-year-old Trump and his opponent, the 81-year-old Joe Biden. Vance was elected as a senator in 2022, and is thus relatively new to big politics.

Be a sharp critic

He has previously served in the US Marines and has studied at Ohio State University and Yale.

Vance, who comes from poor conditions north of Cincinnati in Ohio, first became known when he published the book “Hillbilly Elegy” in 2016. It was made into a film in 2020, with Glenn Close among others in the cast.

When Trump became president in 2016, Vance was a sharp critic of Trump, whom he called an “idiot” and “cultural heroin”. In private, he has even called Trump “America’s Hitler”. But the relationship gradually changed, and Trump campaigned on Vance’s behalf in 2022.

Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming told Reuters that Vance changed his mind regarding Trump because he saw “how much success Trump had as president.” Critics, on the other hand, believe that Vance is more concerned with opportunism than politics. Several have pointed out that he has changed his position on some issues to be more in line with Trump, especially when it comes to his views on abortion.

Populism and isolationism

– JD has had a very successful business career in technology and finance, and in the election campaign he will now be very focused on the people he has fought so hard for, the American workers and farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota and far beyond, writes Trump.

In addition, Trump and his advisers believe that Vance and the former president stand for many of the same policies. It is particularly regarding the mixture of economic populism and isolationism, writes Reuters.

Earlier on Monday, several media outlets wrote that both Senator Marco Rubio from Florida and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum had been told that they would not be elected. Both were seen as hot candidates for office, along with Vance.

Sometime later on Monday evening, Trump, who survived an assassination attempt at the weekend, was officially chosen as the Republican presidential candidate. He was also in 2016 and 2020, then with Mike Pence as vice-presidential candidate.
